This popular establishment was originally created under the name Café des Pâquerettes in 1882, in a building that is now listed as a historic monument, just steps away from the watchful gaze of Duke Charles II of Brunswick.
It started as a simple place, but within a few years, it became a renowned destination thanks to its cheese fondue specialties. Nestled in the shadow of the monumental Mont-Blanc Post Office, a stone’s throw from Cornavin Station and close to the lake, the restaurant was renamed "Au Petit Chalet" in 1956. Ideally located in a central and bustling area throughout the day and frequented by both locals and tourists in the evening, it has become an iconic spot.
Today, just as in the past, this authentic place offers sincere and generous cuisine, deeply rooted in Swiss local traditions with international influences. Its wide variety of cheese fondues has made it famous, and many Genevans consider Au Petit Chalet the local reference for this dish.
At the beginning of the 21st century, due to growing demand, Au Petit Chalet expanded by acquiring the neighboring arcade, which became Au Grand Chalet, doubling its seating capacity.
On the night of March 5, 2022, the restaurant was ravaged by a violent fire. Everything was reduced to ashes, but the perseverance of the owner allowed it to rise from the ashes after a year of reconstruction, bringing new life to this now legendary and unmissable Geneva landmark.
As you step through the doors of Au Petit Chalet and Au Grand Chalet, you are in for an unforgettable experience. We already know that you’ll want to come back.
